Every screen, prompt, and default on zewaj is examined against the Quran and Sunnah before release. What the board rejects, we remove. What they request, we build.
Reviews the wali modes, conversation boundaries, and the marriage process end to end.
Advises on technology questions: AI matchmaking, digital privacy, and records of consent.
Guards the sisters' experience: modesty defaults, the review team, and protection from pressure.
Board composition is being finalized with community consultation. Named memberships are confirmed at launch, on this page, with each scholar's own words.
Physical attraction is a legitimate part of the marriage decision — the Prophet ﷺ encouraged looking at a prospective spouse. But browsing faces for entertainment is not that. Photos unlock between two people who have declared mutual interest, with the wali aware. Attraction enters at the right stage, in the right frame.
The Prophet ﷺ said that when a man and woman are alone, the third is shaytan. The wali modes — Observer, Gatekeeper, Proxy — are the engineering answer. A conversation on zewaj is never structurally khalwa; there is always a third presence, visible to both sides.
Keeping someone waiting without an answer is a form of harm. The 48-hour window and the farewell templates exist because clarity is a right both sides hold. Declining with kindness is built into the interface.
Actions are by intentions. Declaring your marriage timeline at signup — and displaying it on your profile — aligns the platform with the shariah principle that a marriage process should be transparent about its purpose from the first step.
